Hey Cool! I’m super hyped to see this as you probably already know I’m a fanatic on this stuff. Hope to see you there! For some reason not much mention or fanfare was made of the 50th Anniversary of the first successful American launch of Explorer I on Febuary 1st , 1958 which really got the whole Space Race / Age thing into high gear!

One other interesting note: The place showing the film
the IFC Center is actually the old Waverly theater were the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” midnight movie craze started!
Wow… you’re heading round the world more than Sputnik itself these days, thomas! It’d be great if you could recreate the Sputnik show from London…
Enjoy!

Cor, I’d love to go along -
but alas, I’m ‘holed up’ here on the Ffarm, acting as impromptu midwife to our herd of goats & flock of sheep. You’re doing as much flying as my husband these days, methinks (& he’s a commercial pilot!).
Anyway have a great time at the Launch & raise a glass to poor little me, staring at the stars & waiting for babies.
Any more ‘cranking up’ in the Wheelhouse, btw….?
Oh BTW I have a real “Soviet” Space helmet and communications bonnet. I can bring that with me If you and David are interested in wearing it!
). Seriously I don’t think it was ever in space but probably used in high altitude training missions.
It looks just like this one :
