A brief US, UK tour (and maybe Canada!)

Exciting news: I’ve been invited to tour the North America and the UK this Autumn. This is in support of my forthcoming EP, ‘Live at SxSW’, which features my horn section the Jazz Mafia Horns. I expect to have them with me for at least the North American dates, and possibly the UK leg too if tickets sell well. These guys are fantastic, as you’ll hear shortly when the EP comes out—in the meantime here’s a sneak audio preview snippet from the upcoming EP…..

The US schedule includes several of the venues where I had my best shows in 2006, either solo or with BT: for example the Birchmere in Alexandria and the World Cafe in Philadelphia. But when I hooked up with the Jazz Mafia for my Spring 08 jaunt to SxSW, we did not make it over as far as the East Coast, so this’ll be a first. One of the gigs—Sept 22nd in NYC—is a brief appearance at the Moogfest, an annual concert in celebration of synthmaker Robert Moog, who died last year. The following night at a charity concert in Connecticut, I’ll be performing once again with Ethel, the amazing progressive string quartet.
In response to outcry from fans in Canada—where I haven’t performed since 1988!—we’re also trying to fit in at least one show over the border in Toronto, and maybe another in Montreal.
As I’ve blogged about before, I played a couple of London gigs last Summer, my first in 18 years. They went very well and the audiences and promoters were keen to get me back over to play some more cities. We’ve been able to line a few up. It’ll be wonderful to play out around the UK after all this time. These dates kick off with a special gig at the ICA in London on October 3rd to mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik. The UK dates are only pencilled in at this point so don’t blame me if you call the venues and they know nothing about it!
Here is my tentative schedule for September and October. Confirmed dates are in bold. Tickets are already on sale at some of the venues, just click on the link and see if I’m listed:

Fantastic news…. ANOTHER new live CD, and live shows for East Coasters, Kanucks, and your rabid fans waiting across the pond. You certainly are in a giving mood these days, Thomas! Many thanks.

Wow!
Looking forward to the UK dates
MANNNN do those audio snippets sound good, Thomas!!! You lot
got a real grooooooove goin’ during “Hot Sauce”! So I’m listenin’ to it, and dancin’ away…!
Wherever you play in Canuckia {if you do!}, I’ll get there. Us
Canuckian fans will band together somewhere, probably.
I’ll be bringing my gently-used copy of “TGAoW” that I bought in my favorite classic-vinyl-LP store yesterday…it’s an original, that
Even if you don’t do a m-n-g, I’ll just show the LP to my fellow
pre-dates “SBMWS!” {ack, all these acronyms, but we know what they mean! Us ‘insiders’, heh heh heh.} Oddly, I think, “OOOS”
isn’t on there, but “Urges” and “Leipzig” are, as they ought to be.
fans. *If* there’s a show…this is all so theoretical!
So I got out the ol’ turntable [okay, circa mid-80's, so not really
old], and hooked it up to my new CD-alarm clock via auxiliary
jack. And it WORKED! I’m kind of proud of that… No soldering
iron required these days, just a bit of electronic creativity.
Sigh…now I can play my classic vinyl LP’s anytime I like. There’s a richness and a depth to vinyl that’s missing from CD’s, I
think. DAMN but that sounded nice…especially “Cloudburst at
Shingle Street.” Fantastic. It’s always reminded me of the
beginning of a thunderstorm.
Peace and lotsa cables,
Kara, proud techie!!!!
Booking flights and tickets NOW!
I was starting to wonder…

Jon

Tickets will be obtained ASAP!
Summer is saved!

UK dates? About time I say!
Me and Wireless had a great time last year, and our wives also enjoyed it.
But, I wonder if an Ireland date can be arranged?
Thomas, you told me you had always wanted to play here!
I have a perfect venue in Northern Ireland which holds about 500 – 700 people.
It’s called the ‘Spring and Airbrake’, and has a great reputation for intimate gigs.
WASP recently played there. Remember them?
Contact me if you plan the 45 minute flight from blighty! The war is over you know!
Fantastic! Even if you can’t make a stop in Florida, I’m thrilled to see that you’re playing CA and the UK
Okay, I pack my bags, move to the big city of Chicago knowing that you will probably play here in the big city again on your next tour, and you only hit the East Coast. I can’t get you in KC and I can’t get you in Chicago. *sigh* I give up.
On a serious note, the UK is going to go ballastic with excitement when you tour there again. Have a safe tour!!!
Brian
PS. If you need a Chicago hookup I’ll do whatever I can here locally for arrangements. The same goes for KC.
Excellent news indeed, waiting with anticipation for the UK dates to be announced
10/3 – 10/11 Does that mean………9 dates??!!
The Birchmere rocks – I’m so glad you like the venue, and I think it’s fair to say all of the Dolbyphiles in the DC area are thrilled you are coming back! Great you’ll be back at the Ram’s Head, too. (Now, will you be able to swing a little sailing while in town?)
Awesome that the UK – and maybe our friends to the north – will have the pleasure of your company soon, too. Very, very cool!
Any chance of you touring the west coast again? We loved seeing you at the Little Fox!
Oh my god!!!
Canadian dates – a chance – SWEEEET
I did a road trip to Detroit to see you last time I think 10 hours driving all told. AMAZING news!
Graham
Belleville Ontario
Wow Thomas!!!!
So glad you liked the Birchmere. I was there 12/22/06 and
it was my first time seeing you live.
Hope this tour is a resoundng (pardon the pun) success!!!!
Best wishes,
80sGeek/Monica
Hee hee…please excuse my *duh* moment…I’d forgotten that
a cloudburst *is* a thunderstorm! Oy…
Peace and temporary meteorological amnesia,
Kara again! {I don’t always know ‘weather’ my head is still on top
of my neck…ow, be gentle, that rancid cucumber hit me in the
forehead! Oh the indignity…}
Really looking forward to your UK dates. Hopefully I won’t be emergency babysitting like I was for your Wireless festival date last year. Wait years to see you in concert my friends baby comes out in massive rash!
Good luck with your tour,
peace & stuff
David
Yay another tour! I’m confused about the confirmed dates being bold though..did I miss something? I don’t see any of them being bold..
