Professor Corpussal

Well, I’ve been an action figure and a dancing hamster in a labcoat, and now it appears I’m the inspiration behind a cuddly vampire named Professor Corpussal. His creator, Holly Golightly and her husband Jim came to my show in Sellersville, and gave me a copy of her comic book School Bites containing this artwork. You can view more of Holly and Jim’s work at Jim Balent Studios.

In Holly’s words:
“The character you inspired is named Professor Corpussal the Teacher of Blood Drinking 101 at the Shadow Academy, School for Vampires. He instructs his students on how to drink responsibly ! He is very scientific in his approach to, as he calls it, “plasma intake”…. He also is prone to fits of hyper-active excitement at the idea of teaching and so exuding with that wacky mad scientist energy! He is the main guide to my characters education of vampiric survival. In School Bites 3, Prof. Corpussal will reveal a very interesting method on how to choose ones victim.”

And now the poop on School Bites in General:

“A cross between Harry Potter and Anne Rice, this original graphic novel is fun for lovers of Goth, Manga and all things Cute! “SCHOOL BITES” Follows, rebellious gal, Cherri Creeper as she discovers that there is indeed a School to teach fledgling Vampires to Drink Responsibly! Creator Holly Golightly (colorist of Tarot, creator of Vampfire, wrote/penciled Sabrina, Josie& the Pussycats and CosmoGirl) is gearing up to have the 3rd School Bites out by Autumn of 2006!”

Holly’s also a regular on my Forum. Here’s a pic husband Jim took at the meet’n'greet at the Sellersville Theater.

    Dear TMDR:

How on earth did you ever meet Holly Golightly? Please explain how it occurred…

Her designs look so very Japanese-Manga Eyes, no? What’s next? A planet-sized, interchangable robot-machine named “Europa?” Maybe a better reference is needed!

I have been meaning to also thank you for the MASSIVE show that you put forth for those of us who were fortunate to have seen you in Royal Oak, Detroit. I met my old dear friend, Stevie-D, there after 18 years. You auto’d-ed his Moog earlier in your tour. He’s totally off the ranch about it – he is YOUR GREATEST FAN, seriously.

Also, thanks for the great pictures in your blog about ROMT. We felt so completely involved with your show, and I think that the photos show it. Your desire is so genuine!

In closing, I imagine that you keep in touch with musicians and talents that you’be worked with in one form or another. Do you find yourself asking how they keep making music? Do you focus time simply upon “making music”? I guess I mean, do you corner yourself up and devote time to writing music, or do you simply have a great metaphor for a sunset strike you one night and suddenly find yourself in need of a pencil?

Thanks for bothering to read any of this. Stevie-D’s Moog Source is now sacred after his trek to bring it to you!!

“Is that a ham bone, Stanley?”

Speaking of vampires, some time I’d love to hear about your experiences making “Rockula.” It seems your film work is under-represented on your website.

oh I’ll post sharper images in the Forum…

Hi JP- I hope not to be confussed with the musician
I believe I’m a bit old and a lot more colourful hair wise.
er-my Mom’s fav movie was Breafast at Tyffany’s and she loves Audrey Hepburn so it was either my name or Rema the Bird Girl : )

And yes-I love manga and wanted to create my own style
of it after working for years on Archie comics and the CosmoGirl mag –having to draw like other artists!

And now I want this TD action figure!! how cool is that!
I’d have my Star wars figures meet and enjoy my Thomas Dolby figure’s
    performance!
Nar I say Slave Leia may do a little dance during the gig!

    oooo and where’s this hamster!?

    I love Rockula!!!!
I’m sad to say -my vhs of it is somewhere hiding in our house!
I have only an empty bow :sniff:

    Big Hugs!

Amazing! Late last night I was reading yesterdays blog entry to which Holly had replied. When I clicked on her name it linked to her pages which of course made me browse! I was the picture of the prof for the first time.
I instantly thought that you were the inspiration and was about to write a PM to Holly asking about it when my 1 year old daughter woke up crying…

Now, several hours and a plane trip later, I am sitting here at lunchtime in Düsseldorf taking a break. I open the blog to see exactly the scenario I had imagined revealed before my very eyes. Spooky!

My educated guess is that the Japanese cover of SBMWS 7″ on Toshiba EMI must have been the inspiration. It is veeery much that era.

    Amazed!

    Cheers,
    Jon

  5. HollyG Says:

    Hey Jon!
    I’m not good with abrv.
    what’s SBMWS?
The character just came out of love for TD’s work!
I actually had my portable DVD player need the board and drew from my TD videos.
I knew he’s be perfect for the character!
Now if I can an Anmie made and have TD be the Voice of Profes. C!
    WooHoo!
say hi to your baby girl!

  6. mongoloid Says:

I’m gonna guess that SBMWS is an acronym for She Blinded Me With Science. GREAT artwork, Holly!
