Final gig tonight!

We just arrived in Aspen, Colorado. Very pretty drive from Denver, winding up green canyons towards the snow-capped Rockies. However, there was a mountain road closed on the way, and our crew fell prey to it. Johnny and Bree had to turn around an take a 90 minute detour; but Darin and Justin, our boys in the truck, had an interesting off-roading adventure that I suspect falls outside Penske’s rental conditions! Seems they came to the roadblock, their GPS unit had a bright idea they could take a direct route to Aspen that turned out to be 20 miles of dirt road. Not the greatest thing for my equipment. But here we are, in a luscious resort hotel that we got cut price because the ski season’s over and the summer season has yet to begin. As Lunesse pointed out, this tour is bookended rather nicely: Malibu and Aspen. It doesn’t get much better than that.

I’ll write later about our last show. Should be a party atmosphere tonight!

Have fun, TMDR! You, your great crew, and even your gremlins deserve a tremendous round of applause – and a nice long holiday weekend. :-)

(And I love the fact that the Penske has a “Wall Drug” bumpersticker. Free ice water! Come see the bowling cat! Jackalopes for everyone!)

    Thomas,

Mark from Louisville Colorado here (just outside of Boulder). First of all, thanks for adding the Colorado shows. I was so bummed when I saw the first schedule and we were not in the list – and now we have the honor of being the last two shows on the tour :^).

I was at the show last night in Denver at the Blue Bird Theater with my wife and another friend. We stood up by Johnny DeKam’s rig and had a great view of the stage and could also see him doing his magic behind the scenes. It was really great vantage point.

The performance was fantastic. Nicely done! From where we were, the mix was just awesome by the way.

Loved it all, but “Budapest by Blimp” was especially cool.

Good luck with the last show. Come back soon.

It must be nice to reach the finish line (for now!)
I have found my self in a bit of Dolby-mania
every since the Red Devil lounge showhad been announced
    (Anaheim,SF etc)
I *almost* made the trip from Minneapolis
but the tour had the show coming over to that confusing St. Paul.
I had the Flat Earth *album* (big round black thing.)
2 weeks after it came out but no tour until I left for the service and ended up in Tampa FL by 1985 or so.
Aliens …tour came through Janus Landing but I couldn’t make it.So I nearly teared up (a few) to finally hear this material live after all these years in person.
I was in North Africa for a while and Europa and the dreamyness of weightless and Airwaves in my cassette deck made all that HEEEAT tolerable (More.military duty)
    Thanks.

So, Thomas, what did you think of your Colorado audiences? We hope you come back this way on the next tour!

Wasn’t at the Aspen show, but I like to think that we in the Denver audience did a pretty decent job of showing the love! As well we should have, as the show was phenomenal.

(And a shout-out to Mark from Louisville – Beth from Erie, here. Let’s see if we can get Boulder added to the next tour too, eh? :-)

I need to point out that the wierd haze/slashes in this photo of our boys in the truck is HAIL. That very morning I went to the top of the Sears Tower with Justin and Darin, and this photo was shot outside Martyrs’ just a few hours later, during a torrential hail and thunderstorm that lasted all of ten minutes. =) Our crew braved it all! Hail, dirt roads, and me constantly asking to get into the back of the truck to fetch more t shirts.
