"special delivery"

posted by: lunesse

We got our posters in yesterday. They were delivered by a large national carrier. We have been waiting for them eagerly.

When we arrived at the hotel, this is what we found:

Luckily, many of them are in good shape in the box that is to the right. Still, this was horribly disappointing. We have enough to make it until we get some more fresh ones, hopefully boxed much more professionally! but you can see the one poster taped to the front of the box…it really is beautiful!

We bought a Martin guitar from ebay last year and F*d*x (they shall remain nameless) delivered it to us with a 20 inch crack around the bottom of it. Not sure UP* is much better.

Oh my gosh that’s awful. Did the printer actually box those that way??? I would have blown a gasket with them.

I’m really looking forward to the show tonight here in Seattle. I hope, somehow in between all of your running around that you all manage to enjoy some of the lovely weather we’re having this weekend. Pioneer Square is a great place to hang.

What a horrid pack job! Hope it wasn’t UPS. A commercial printer should really know better.

That’s disgraceful. It just backs up the point I made on Thomas’ last blog about the fact that service is become so apalling these days. It’s not the same everywhere fortunately.

As a former shipping manager, I would say the problem is the poor packaging. Things need to be packed well enough to take some abuse. Make sure you turn in a damage claim for the value of the damaged product if it is significant.

If it is between FedEx and UPS, I’d say UPS. UPS is known for trashing things. Forget any insurance you might have paid for. But at least they show up and try to deliver things.

FedEx has been abandoned at my company because they don’t knock or ring to let us know they are there. They just leave door tags and report “Business closed” on their website. Customers love it!

FedEx Ground, on the other hand, doesn’t even make deliveries unless they have to pick something up. There is a big chain of subcontracted work between FedEx, FedEx ground, the route/truck owners, and the drivers, and they only get paid for pickups.

Needless to say, I will not order from companies that only use FedEx because I’ll never get it. With UPS I run the risk it will be destroyed in transit, but at least I can keep the faith it will show up.

Man, those boxes don’t look too good. I guess both have their ups and downs. I’ve never had FedEx not deliver a package but they have been slow a few times. My main concern is price of shipping. I run a small business and I couldnt afford it if I didn’t always get the cheapest shipping possible. I used to drive to each place and compare prices but one day I stumbled across http://www.shippingsidekick.com and I checked it out. They compare the prices of UPS, USPS, FedEx, and DHL side by side. I couldn’t believe it. If you ship multiple packages a week, check it out, it saves a great deal of money.
