Video footage?
Sadly, the Union Chapel gig audio was not recorded professionally. It was supposed to happen at the mixing desk but in the chaos leading up to doors opening, it just didn’t get organised. I apologise and I hope this is not too much of a disappointment to those that weren’t able to make it.
However there were 2-3 HD cameras going that I know of. I doubt the sound will be great but I will edit that footage at some point and put up at the least a montage of bits of the show. If you shot video, please contact Lindon Lait aka Bawdsey Buoy via private message on the Forum and arrange to send it to him, maybe I can use it in my edit!
A few amateur clips have already shown up on YouTube. Normally I’m against this but in the absence of a pro audio track I’ll let it fly this once.
sounds great. airwaves- very cool.
now just get that whacky horn section from SF and do a world tour.
my world: northeast U. S.
. . . In the spirit of Thomas’s invitation to bring cameras in to record this event, I thought I’d at least try to capture the audio – so I’ve got the whole thing as a pretty reasonable audience recording on minidisc. Sure, it’s not as good as a sound board, but it’s better than I expected. I’m sure with a bit of studiio polish it could be improved further – is this worth pursuing? It was a great evening that deserves to be preserved in some accessable format.
Mr Beef, that’s excellent news! I was hoping someone would come forward with a ‘bootleg’ recording. Please can you get in touch with Bawdsey Buoy aka Lindon Lait in the Forum and figure out how to send him the audio? Between yours and the camera audio I should be able to fudge something together. Thank you!
TMDR – I have messaged Bawdsey Buoy – it’s a pleasure to help with this – weird, but I had a premonition of this very scenario, which was what made me so careful to get the recording!
I have the entire show on Hi8mm video. I should receive the Video capture thing tomorrow so I can convert it to a DVD then on to Lindon from there (It came out well)
Good ole’ minidisc. Still has its uses.
Great pics of the show by the way.
The video would be great for the one third of the audience (inc me) who could not see Mr Dolby all night due to the placement of his piano behind two F**k off big speakers and a very tall piano. Friends have often asked me why I’m sensitive about my height……………
i thought you were immune
Just watched the videos on YouTube. Thank you, Thomas for allowing them to stay up. Absolutely incredible. Please, please, PLEASE…bring this show to the states. Been a huge fan since the early 80s. Saw you in L.A. back then, while I was working at Geffen Records. But my work as a writer has kept me from seeing you since. I know it would be a lot of work, but if McCartney can still drag himself around the States, then you MUST! Can’t wait for the new album.
